چکیده

n this issue of the Journal, Link et al. (1) report a study on he occurrence of pacemaker syndrome in the Mode Selecion (MOST) trial. The MOST trial is the largest randomzed trial of pacing mode selection in patients with sick sinus yndrome (SSS), including a total of 2,010 patients who all eceived rate-adaptive atrioventricular synchronous dualhamber pacing (DDDR) pacemakers and were randomly ssigned to dual-chamber or rate-adaptive inhibited singleead ventricular (VVIR) pacing mode (N 996) (2). The resent study aimed to evaluate the incidence, predictors, nd treatment of pacemaker syndrome in the 996 patients reated with VVIR pacing.

Optimal pacing mode for sick sinus syndrome.

To the Editor: I read with interest the article on the treatment of patients who have sick sinus syndrome (SSS) with single-chamber atrial pacing by Anderson et al.1 However, their finding of the annual risk of secondor third-degree atrioventricular (AV) block of only 0.6% per year contrasts somewhat with the reported findings that abnormal AV conduction was demonstrated in 57% to 67% of patien...

A comparison of single-lead atrial pacing with dual-chamber pacing in sick sinus syndrome.

AIMS In patients with sick sinus syndrome, bradycardia can be treated with a single-lead pacemaker or a dual-chamber pacemaker. Previous trials have revealed that pacing modes preserving atrio-ventricular synchrony are superior to single-lead ventricular pacing, but it remains unclear if there is any difference between single-lead atrial pacing (AAIR) and dual-chamber pacing (DDDR). METHODS A...

Atrial adaptive rate pacing in sick sinus syndrome: effects on exercise capacity and arrhythmias.

OBJECTIVE To test the hypotheses that adaptive rate atrial (AAIR) pacing: significantly increases maximal exercise capacity, and results in significant suppression of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmia compared with fixed rate atrial (AAI) pacing. DESIGN Prospective, randomised, single blind, crossover study with maximal treadmill exercise testing and 24 hour ambulatory electrocardio...

Right versus left atrial pacing in patients with sick sinus syndrome and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (Riverleft study): study protocol for randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND The incidence of sick sinus syndrome will increase due to population ageing. Consequently, this will result in an increase in the number of pacemaker implantations. The atrial lead is usually implanted in the right atrial appendage, but this position may be ineffective for prevention of atrial fibrillation. It has been suggested that pacing distally in the coronary sinus might be mor...

Heart failure in patients with sick sinus syndrome treated with single lead atrial or dual-chamber pacing: no association with pacing mode or right ventricular pacing site.

AIMS Previous studies indicate that ventricular pacing may precipitate heart failure (HF). We investigated occurrence of HF during long-term follow-up among patients with sick sinus syndrome (SSS) randomized to AAIR or DDDR pacing. Furthermore, we investigated effects of percentage of ventricular pacing (%VP) and pacing site in the ventricle. METHODS AND RESULTS We analysed data from 1415 pat...
